Raúl is responsible for coordinating the identification and evaluation of investment and disinvestment opportunities from the scientific and business points of view. He also coordinates the preparation of the scientific and business reporting to the Investment Committee and collaborates in the monitoring process of Ysios' portfolio companies.

Raúl comes from Almirall, where he was responsible of managing and developing the business of the company through licensees and distributors in America and Africa. Before that he worked in the Area of Corporate Business Development within the same company, focusing on Licensing In and Licensing Out activities. During that stage Raúl interacted with a large number of pharmaceutical and biotech companies on a global basis and he coordinated and led the required activities to evaluate and approve a relevant number of licensing projects in different therapeutic areas from a technical, commercial, contractual, financial and business point of view.

Raúl was initially trained as a researcher in the areas of Central Nervous System pharmacology in the Department of Pharmacology of the UPV-EHU (University of the Basque Country), and in neurochemistry in the Department of Neurochemistry of the IIBB-CSIC (Institute for Biomedical Research of Barcelona-Spanish Council for Scientific Research). During that training period Raúl participated in several research projects funded by government bodies and pharmaceutical companies, as well as in teaching activities.

Raúl has a B.Sc. in Biological Sciences by the UPV-EHU and holds a Ph.D. in Neurosciences by the same university and the CSIC. The carrying out of his Ph.D. was funded by a research training fellowship of the Basque Government.
